Something exciting is happening at Louis Vuitton this September.
Three of the Maison's most intriguing and previously difficult-to-obtain fragrances – Tea Storm, Moon Tale and Ink Mark – are heading to a wider international audience after originally appearing exclusively in China.
And for UK fragrance enthusiasts, this could be one of Louis Vuitton's most interesting fragrance launches in years.
We've already registered our interest directly with Louis Vuitton and have Tea Storm and Moon Tale ordered for Decantique, with their UK arrival expected in September.
There's also an interesting story behind Tea Storm because you may already know this fragrance by another name:
Rain Tea.
From Louis Vuitton Rain Tea to Tea Storm
When Louis Vuitton introduced its trio of China-inspired fragrances in 2025, one of the fragrances became particularly interesting to collectors outside the region: Rain Tea.
For the wider international release, that fragrance has emerged under the name Tea Storm.
Louis Vuitton is now officially listing Tea Storm alongside Ink Mark and Moon Tale, with its description and composition corresponding to the fragrance previously introduced as Rain Tea.
That makes Tea Storm particularly interesting.
It's technically a new name for many international customers, but it arrives with a reputation already developing among collectors who have spent the last year trying to experience the elusive Chinese release.
What Does Louis Vuitton Tea Storm Smell Like?
Louis Vuitton describes Tea Storm as “the vibrant freshness of tea”, but the composition is considerably more interesting than simply attempting to recreate the smell of a cup of tea.
Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud takes inspiration from the Chinese art of tea and imagines the experience outdoors, surrounded by water, wind and landscape.
The fragrance is built around four official key notes:
Lemongrass
Tea Accord
Magnolia
Centifolia Rose from Grasse
Lemongrass provides the opening burst of brightness, giving Tea Storm a fresh, uplifting citrus-green character.
Magnolia then introduces an airy floral freshness before Centifolia rose from Grasse, extracted using CO₂ in an exclusive Louis Vuitton process, adds a softer and more velvety floral dimension.
But the element we're most interested in is underneath it all:
the tea accord.
Rather than creating a cold or sharply bitter tea fragrance, Louis Vuitton describes the accord as bringing woody warmth with nuances reminiscent of hay and honey.
That combination could make Tea Storm particularly interesting.
Fresh lemongrass and magnolia provide brightness while tea, woods and subtle honeyed warmth potentially give it enough depth to prevent it becoming another straightforward fresh citrus fragrance.
Is Tea Storm the Same as Rain Tea?
This is probably going to be one of the most searched questions surrounding the release.
All the evidence currently available points towards Tea Storm being the international identity of the fragrance originally released in China as Rain Tea.
Most importantly, Louis Vuitton's official Tea Storm composition corresponds with the earlier Rain Tea fragrance: lemongrass, tea, magnolia and Grasse rose remain central to the composition.
So if you've spent the last year seeing Louis Vuitton Rain Tea discussed by collectors but couldn't realistically get hold of a bottle in the UK, Tea Storm is the name you need to remember.
There is one caveat.
Until Louis Vuitton explicitly confirms that the production formula itself is completely unchanged, we're reluctant to claim that Tea Storm and Rain Tea are chemically identical formulations simply because their compositions and descriptions correspond.
Once we have Tea Storm in our hands, that's something we'll be looking into more closely.
Tea Storm Is Part of Something Bigger
Louis Vuitton now places Tea Storm within its Perfumes of the World collection.
The Maison describes this new chapter as a trio of fragrances exploring the Chinese art of living, with each fragrance looking towards different rituals, craftsmanship and traditions.
The three fragrances are:
Tea Storm – inspired by the Chinese art and ritual of tea.
Ink Mark – inspired by Chinese calligraphy and the traditions surrounding ink.
Moon Tale – inspired by Chinese ideas of beauty and legend.
That makes this considerably more interesting than three unrelated fragrances being released simultaneously.
Each explores a different aspect of Chinese culture through scent.
Even the Bottles Are Different
The fragrances also receive some of the most distinctive bottles we've seen from Louis Vuitton.
Marc Newson's familiar apothecary-inspired Louis Vuitton perfume bottle has been reinterpreted with inspiration from the traditional Chinese snuff bottle – small, intricately crafted objects that combined practicality with decorative artistry.
The bottles use opalescent glass with changing reflections, paired with deeply coloured lacquered caps.
Each colour combination reflects the individual identity of the fragrance inside.
And importantly for anyone considering buying one, these aren't decorative bottles that sacrifice one of Louis Vuitton fragrance's biggest advantages:
the 100ml bottles remain refillable at Louis Vuitton stores equipped with perfume fountains.
Louis Vuitton Moon Tale
Tea Storm isn't the only fragrance we're particularly interested in.
We've also ordered Louis Vuitton Moon Tale.
Where Tea Storm explores tea, freshness and the landscape surrounding it, Moon Tale moves into a completely different direction.
Its composition combines fruit, florals and musk, with key elements including:
Raspberry
Peony
Geranium
Jasmine Sambac
Magnolia
Musk
The bright raspberry opening immediately separates Moon Tale from Tea Storm before the fragrance develops into its elaborate floral heart.
Peony, jasmine and magnolia provide different textures of floral freshness before musk creates a softer finish.
On paper at least, Moon Tale could be the wildcard of the three.
And that's precisely why we've ordered it.
What About Louis Vuitton Ink Mark?
The third fragrance is Ink Mark, which takes the collection in a much darker direction.
Its inspiration comes from Chinese calligraphy and particularly the traditional production of Chinese ink, where wood is slowly burned and reduced to soot.
Jacques Cavallier Belletrud interprets the idea through a woody composition centred around sandalwood, accompanied by incense and amber.
That places Ink Mark at almost the opposite end of the spectrum to Tea Storm.
Where Tea Storm is about luminosity, air and freshness, Ink Mark explores woods, smoke and depth.
Together, the three create a fascinating contrast:
Tea Storm – tea, freshness and nature
Moon Tale – fruit, flowers and beauty
Ink Mark – woods, incense and craftsmanship
Why We're Excited About Tea Storm
Louis Vuitton doesn't exactly have a poor track record when it comes to fresh fragrances.
Imagination, Pacific Chill, Afternoon Swim and L'Immensité have become some of the Maison's most recognisable modern perfumes.
That gives Tea Storm some serious expectations to live up to.
But its composition is sufficiently different to make things interesting.
Tea isn't simply being added to another citrus fragrance.
The combination of lemongrass, magnolia, Centifolia rose and a warm woody tea accord potentially gives Tea Storm a character quite different from Imagination's famous citrus, ginger and black-tea profile.
And that's one comparison we're particularly interested in making.
Tea Storm vs Louis Vuitton Imagination
It's inevitable.
People are going to compare them.
Both are Louis Vuitton fragrances containing a prominent tea idea, but based on their compositions they approach it very differently.
Imagination combines citrus, ginger and black tea with ambroxan to create its exceptionally clean, modern character.
Tea Storm approaches tea through lemongrass, magnolia and Centifolia rose, with the tea accord introducing warmer woody, hay-like and honeyed nuances underneath.
That suggests two very different interpretations.
If Imagination is a polished modern black tea fragrance, Tea Storm sounds considerably more botanical – somewhere between fresh green citrus, flowers and warm tea.
Whether it can challenge Imagination as one of Louis Vuitton's best fresh fragrances is another matter entirely.
We'll reserve judgement until we've actually worn it.
When Is Louis Vuitton Tea Storm Coming to the UK?
Tea Storm, Moon Tale and Ink Mark are now beginning to appear as part of Louis Vuitton's wider international fragrance offering.
For the UK, we're expecting Tea Storm and Moon Tale during September 2026.
We've already expressed our interest directly with Louis Vuitton and have bottles of Tea Storm and Moon Tale ordered for Decantique.
Once they arrive, we'll be testing both properly.
And we'll be particularly interested in answering a few questions:
Does Tea Storm live up to the hype surrounding Rain Tea?
How prominent is the tea accord?
Is Tea Storm actually different from the original Rain Tea?
How does Tea Storm compare with Imagination?
And is Moon Tale the surprise fragrance of the collection?
Louis Vuitton Tea Storm Samples Coming to Decantique
A full Louis Vuitton fragrance is a significant purchase – particularly when buying a fragrance you've never had the opportunity to smell.
That's where sampling makes considerably more sense than blind buying based on hype.
We're expecting to make Louis Vuitton Tea Storm samples available at Decantique following the UK release, allowing you to properly experience the fragrance on your own skin before deciding whether the full bottle is worth the investment.
We'll also have Louis Vuitton Moon Tale samples available following its arrival.
And if you've spent the last year searching for a Louis Vuitton Rain Tea sample in the UK, Tea Storm is now the fragrance to watch.
We'll publish full reviews once we've spent enough time wearing the fragrances to give you something more useful than repeating a list of notes.
For now, though, September can't come quickly enough.
